Working Group Mandate - Road Safety

Over the next few days we will be posting the mandates of our first working groups to let you know more about us and what we are going to be working to accomplish.

Road Safety Working Group:  WALK SAFE ETOBICOKE

Objective: The Road Safety Working Group within the Etobicoke-Centre Community Impact Network is on a mission to make our streets safer and more secure for everyone. Our primary goal is to identify and address road safety concerns within Ward 2 and Ward 3; working collaboratively with local authorities, residents, and experts to implement effective measures that enhance the overall safety of pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists.

Traffic Analysis and Assessment:

  1. Conduct a thorough analysis of traffic patterns, accident data, and high-risk areas within Central Etobicoke.

  2. Collaborate with local authorities to assess intersections, road layouts, and traffic flow for potential safety improvements.

  3. Utilize data and research to inform decision-making processes, identifying trends and patterns that contribute to road safety challenges.

  4. Collaborate with experts and researchers to implement evidence-based solutions.

Community Engagement:

  1. Engage with residents to gather firsthand insights into road safety concerns and identify specific areas of concern.

  2. Organize community workshops, surveys, and forums to involve residents in shaping road safety initiatives.

Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns:

  1. Advocate for road safety policies and infrastructure improvements at local and regional levels.

  2. Develop and implement awareness campaigns to educate residents on safe road practices and promote responsible driving.

  3. Advocate for improved signage, crosswalks, lighting, and traffic calming measures where needed.

Community Action Projects:

  1. Develop and execute community-based projects that promote road safety, such as pedestrian-friendly initiatives, neighborhood programs, and educational events for local groups wanting to know more.

Regular Assessments and Reporting:

  1. Conduct regular assessments of implemented safety measures to gauge their effectiveness.

  2. Provide transparent and regular reports (yearly) to the community on road safety initiatives, progress, and challenges.

How to Get Involved: If you are passionate about creating safer streets in Etobicoke in the areas of Ward 2 and 3, we invite you to join the Road Safety Task Force. Your input, ideas, and commitment to community safety are essential in making a lasting impact.
